Many women will tell you they don’t eat much, yet they are gaining weight. With the exception of a very few that have some medical conditions, you’ll discover that others are just not keeping count of what they put into their mouths. A close friend of mine is on this yoyo syndrome of lose weight today, gain more tomorrow and the frustrations associated with it. I made her keep a journal of her meals, snacks and drinks just for a week and she was amazed at how much she was consuming each day, without thinking. The next week, we agreed that she will deliberately control the unnecessary snacks that she consumed even when not hungry, and there was a remarkable difference. In just a week of keeping tabs, she had lost 0.5kg without really going on a diet. The next week, we decided, no late meals – i.e. after 6.00pm, you are only allowed to take water. This resulted in 1.5kg weight loss! Still, we have not got to the level of “you can eat this” and “you cannot eat that”. We’ll get there pretty soon, with good results. I believe in a weight loss programme that can be maintained over time because you are not restricted from eating what you normally eat, but you eat them sensibly.
